The U.
S. Mint
first
issued
Prestige
Proof
Sets in
1983.
These
sets
were
produced
each
year
from
1983 to
1997,
with the
exception
of 1985.
The
production
of
Prestige
Proof
Sets was
suspended
with the
last
issued
being
1997.
Each set
is
housed
in a
luxurious
case, a
velvet
box that
looks
like a
book.
Opening
the
hinged
cover
reveals
a framed
set of
coins. Both
front
and back
covers
open to
view the
respective
obverse
and
reverse
of the
coins.
The sets
are in
high
demand
and hard
to get.
The
regular
coins
are
clad,
but the
commemorative
dollars
are
silver.
All sets
are
housed
in their
original
U. S.
Mint
box.
Each set
contains
a Proof
Lincoln
Cent,
Jefferson
Nickel,
Roosevelt
Dime,
Washington
Quarter,
Kennedy
Half
Dollar
as well
as a
Commemorative
Coin or
Coins.
